BROOKLYN, NY– Nearly nine months after Parliament approved the 2021 national budget, the Keith Mitchell administration is seeking parliamentary approval for a supplementary budget of EC$54.9 million (One EC dollar=US 0.37 cents).
Parliament will meet on Friday to debate the proposal that would benefit at least five different ministries with the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Physical Development, Public Utilities, and Energy receiving the largest allocation of EC$38.4 million.
The Ministry of Health, which is dealing with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic here, will receive EC$10.2 million.
The Ministry of National Security will receive one million dollars to be used for the “payments of increments, additional recruits (staff) and insufficient allocations on the original Budget.”
Parliament had approved the EC$931.2 million budget that had been presented by Finance Minister Gregory Bowen on December 2 last year.
