(BROOKLYN, New York): Phillip, who has been visually-impaired since the age of 10, won the Junior Extempo calypso competition after several years of trying for the title. Phillip fulfilled his dream at the final held at the Cipriani Labour College recently beating 15 other contestants to take the title.
Isaiah John a student from Arima North Secondary who battled Phillip in the final placed second while Josiah Kennedy from St James Secondary placed third. “I finally achieve my goal so I am feeling real good, it was long overdue,” he told Loop Phillip ended his stint in the Juniors on a high as he plans to graduate to the senior competition from next year. He won $5000, a phone and a trophy for his winning performance.
